Born on February 5, 1990, in Wattala, a suburb near Colombo, Vandersay’s cricketing journey took shape in the school corridors of Wesley College. From the outset, he wasn’t your typical spinner. He was drawn to the art of leg-spin—deceptive, risky, and immensely rewarding when executed well. Unlike most Sri Lankan bowlers, Vandersay chose the harder path. In a cricketing culture dominated by finger-spinners like Muralitharan and Herath, wrist spinners were rare. But Jeffrey stayed committed to his craft, toiling in the domestic circuit until he caught the selectors’ eye with a brilliant spell in the 2015 Super T20 Provincial Tournament.
