About Mohammab Nabi

Mohammad Nabi is the heartbeat of Afghanistan cricket—a pioneer, a mentor, and a fierce competitor who helped shape the nation’s rise in international cricket. Born on January 1, 1985, in Logar Province, Nabi’s early years were shaped by political unrest. Like many Afghans, he and his family moved to Pakistan as refugees, and it was in Peshawar where his love for cricket truly took root. From refugee camps to international stadiums, Nabi’s journey is the stuff of inspiration. He began playing competitive cricket in his teens, eventually joining Afghanistan’s early national squads. His breakthrough came during Afghanistan’s meteoric rise through the ICC divisions between 2008 and 2010, helping them climb from Division 5 all the way to gaining ODI status. He was one of the very few players at the time with experience of playing club cricket in England and Pakistan, which added polish to his natural all-round ability. Nabi made his ODI debut in 2009 and quickly established himself as a dependable middle-order batter and intelligent off-spinner. His leadership came naturally, and he captained Afghanistan during some of its most crucial years—including their inaugural World Cup appearance in 2015. With bat or ball, Nabi delivers when his team needs him most. Whether rescuing innings with quick runs, breaking partnerships with his subtle off-spin, or bringing calm under pressure, Nabi has been Afghanistan’s go-to man for over a decade. He became the first Afghan cricketer to play in top franchise leagues around the world—from the IPL and BBL to the CPL and PSL—bringing Afghanistan pride and representation on the global stage. Off the field, Nabi is deeply respected for his humility, maturity, and dedication to the game. He serves as a mentor for younger players like Rashid Khan and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, offering guidance and leadership in the locker room. Even in his late 30s, he remains supremely fit and committed, often outshining players half his age. A devoted family man and patriot, Nabi has always worn Afghanistan’s badge with honor. To his people, he’s more than just an all-rounder—he’s a national treasure who stood tall when Afghan cricket needed a torchbearer.
