About Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj is the embodiment of hard work, resilience, and raw emotion in Indian cricket. Born on March 13, 1994, in Hyderabad, Siraj hails from a humble background. His father was an auto-rickshaw driver, and his family lived a modest life. Cricket was not just a passion for Siraj—it was a means to uplift his family. With no fancy academies or early access to elite coaching, Siraj honed his craft playing tennis-ball cricket on the streets of Hyderabad. His talent for seam bowling, especially his natural ability to swing the ball and bowl with aggression, caught the eye during local tournaments. He made his Ranji Trophy debut for Hyderabad in 2015 and had a breakthrough season in 2016–17, finishing as one of the top wicket-takers. That performance earned him an IPL contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad and later, a place in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s bowling unit, where he evolved under the guidance of Virat Kohli. Siraj’s international career began in 2017, but it wasn’t until the historic 2020–21 Test series in Australia that he truly captured hearts. With senior pacers injured and the team under pressure, Siraj led the Indian pace attack in just his third Test match. Despite personal grief—he had lost his father during the tour and chose to stay with the team—he delivered with remarkable courage. His five-wicket haul at the Gabba was instrumental in India's legendary series win and marked the arrival of a new star. Known for his high energy, aggressive celebrations, and emotional honesty, Siraj wears his heart on his sleeve. He gives it all on the field—be it sprinting hard in the heat, diving in the outfield, or charging in with fire in his eyes. His performances in ODIs and T20s have also improved steadily, highlighted by a fiery spell in the Asia Cup 2023 final where he dismantled Sri Lanka with 6 wickets for just 21 runs. Off the field, Siraj is grounded and loyal. He often dedicates his success to his late father and frequently gives back to his community. In every wicket he takes, there’s a trace of his journey—from the narrow lanes of Hyderabad to the biggest stadiums in the world. Siraj is not just a bowler; he’s a story of dreams realized through grit, heart, and hustle.
