About Wahab Riaz

Wahab Riaz is Pakistan’s firebrand fast bowler—known as much for his raw pace as for his unrelenting aggression. Born on June 28, 1985, in Lahore, Wahab’s cricketing story spans nearly two decades of emotional highs and dramatic turns. With his expressive personality and lion-hearted spells, Wahab earned his place in the hearts of Pakistani fans as a warrior of white-ball cricket. Making his international debut in 2008, Wahab was a part of Pakistan's transition period post the exit of its golden generation. He had the natural gifts—a high-arm action, sharp bounce, and the ability to crank up the speed beyond 150 km/h. But he truly announced himself to the world during the 2011 World Cup semifinal, where he took 5 wickets against India in a searing performance that cemented his status as a big-match player. His most iconic moment came in the 2015 World Cup quarterfinal against Australia, where his ferocious spell to Shane Watson—full of short balls, bouncers, and intense staredowns—became the stuff of cricketing folklore. Though he ended up on the losing side, that spell was hailed globally as one of the greatest ever in World Cup history. Wahab wasn’t always Pakistan’s spearhead, but he was their go-to man when it mattered most. Whether it was death overs in ODIs or powerplays in T20s, Wahab’s energy and experience were invaluable. He played in three World Cups and countless league matches around the world, often delivering when others crumbled under pressure. Off the field, Wahab is articulate, confident, and passionate about fast bowling. Even in his later years, he maintained peak fitness and continued to push himself in the domestic circuit. In 2023, he transitioned into a political career and briefly served as caretaker sports minister of Punjab, showing his versatility off the field as well. Wahab Riaz is not just a bowler—he’s a performer, a fighter, and an embodiment of Pakistani cricket’s flair and fire. His legacy lives on in every young bowler who dares to bowl fast and fearless.
